NEW LOCAL COMIX!

Today has been a heavy day for local/indy comix and like good hip hop it just don't stop! Eroyn Franklin, co-founder of Short Run, Seattle's premiere small press comics festival, just dropped off a whole heap of oddly sized, experimental and downright unique comics for the discerning reader. Eroyn's work really comes from a different place than most creators, pulling from influences far outside the comics realm to create thought provoking, insightful and sometimes depressing but always truthful comics about the ever changing world around us.

DEAR DEAR

(W/A) Eroyn Franklin

A man tries to cope with loss by videotaping interviews with people who are connected by a traumatic experience. The mysterious event is slowly revealed through awkward interviews and dreamy noir flashbacks.

NEW LOCAL(ISH) COMIX!

Aron Steinke, a cartoonist and teacher from Portland, stopped by yesterday to drop off a batch of shiny new comix for mass consumption!! Wolf teachers, Dog parks and other humorous insights await you in these fantastically produced comics!

BIG PLANS SC

(W/A) Aron Steinke

Laugh-out-loud funny, chilling, and meditative, Big Plans collects Aron Nels Steinke's most intimate and relatable stories. With a unique sense of timing, these are incredibly readable comics that are hard to put down. Stories ranging from fear of terrorism, alcoholism, and a shooting at the mall, to a behind the curtain's look at the Academy Awards, Big Plans stands out as one of the most compelling works to come out of the modern DIY movement.

BIG PLANS: The Collected Mini-Comics and More collects Big Plans #1 - #5 and stories from Papercutter #9, Nerd Burglar, Song-Zine and Runner Runner.

MR. WOLF

(W/A) Aron Steinke

When he's not creating amazing comics, he's teaching.

Teaching elementary school.

He's assembled a great little mini-zine featuring comics all about the life of a teacher.

They're funny, clever and incredibly observant — both of what it means to be a kid and how they see the world, but how we, as adults interact with them

SUPER DUPER DOG PARK

(W/A) Aron Steinke

Aron's latest book is perhaps his best to date. Switching gears a little from his love of cats, he takes on dogs.

So, all get on your bicycle and ride through the Super Duper Dog Park.

It is an awesome amusement park where dogs ride bikes, fly kites, and have an unforgettable day.

Aron spends countless hours drawing each comic panel with pen and ink. For most of this time Aron draws at the dining room table with a cat in his lap or out at the neighborhood coffee shop.

SUPER CRAZY CAT DANCE

(W/A) Aron Steinke

Written about Aron's girlfriend and her three cats, Pele, August and Eppie, "The Super Crazy Cat Dance" is a wonderful new color hardcover book for kids and adults.

Rich blacks outlines are filled with colorful cats and cat-lovers, and they anoint this sometimes-rhyming, always enchanting, tale of cat ownership.

It's his self-proclaimed best work to date.

"Some are angry. Some are cranky. Some are short. And some are Lanky."

"You must kiss them. You must love them. You must hug them. You must hold them."

NEPTUNE

(W/A) Aron Steinke

Drawn in beautiful black and white, Neptune is an all-ages graphic novel about a couple of kids and their dog, Neptune, who just might have supernatural powers. Playful and witty, Neptune is quite simply a pleasure to read. Neptune is Aron Nels Steinke’s first graphic novel.

SELF PUBLISH OR PERISH!! LOUNAK DISTRIBUTION!

While DC and Marvel may pay the bills, big name creators like Becky Cloonan, Karl Kerschl, and Andy Belanger have banded together to create Lounak Distribution; a collection of high quality, self published books straight from the artist to YOU. As expected, we here at Zanadu jumped on the chance to bring these titles to our customers and hope that people will discover the lesser known works of these fantastic artists!

ABOMINABLE CHARLES CHRISTOPHER VOL 1

(W/A) Karl Kerschl

Karl Kerschl, artist of The Flash, Teen Titans: Year One, and Assassin's Creed, introduced his webcomic 'The Abominable Charles Christopher' in 2007, following the adventures of a dim-witted sasquatch through a world of colourful animal characters. In the few years since its release it has won several awards, including the Eisner Award in 2011 for Best Webcomic. Rather than follow a traditional publishing model, Karl decided to self-publish a hardcover edition of the first chapter, which sold out almost immediately.

Now that same book has been reprinted in a beautiful softcover edition which we are excited to offer to retailers. Featuring a new painted and spot-glossed cover, this family-friendy book will be right at home on store shelves in the company of comics such as Bone and Mouse Guard.

I'm not sure of the best way to describe The Abominable Charles Christopher. To say it's like an unholy mash-up of Walt Kelly, Jeff Smith and Sumerian Mythology is true, but it misses the point completely. It is its own thing, and it does what comics do best: make a world and draw you into it."

- Neil Gaiman - Coraline, American Gods

WOLVES

(W/A) Becky Cloonan

The critically acclaimed short story that sold out of it's initial print-run of 1,000 in just two months is back in stock! It also ships with a free WOLVES bookmark, while supplies last.

As a lone hunter tracks an elusive beast through the forest, he reflects on his life and past love through a series of flashbacks, bringing the story to a climax that is as romantic as it is violent. This powerful mini-comic lends itself to multiple read-throughs, never giving concrete answers but (like the best enigmatic endings) leaves your own conclusions satisfying.

MIRE

(W/A) Becky Cloonan

The much anticipated follow-up to 2011's WOLVES, THE MIRE is a self-contained story set on the eve of battle, when a humble squire is given the task of delivering a letter to a decomposing castle in a swamp. Met with mysterious apparitions, he slowly unveils the truth about why he was sent there, as his past is re-written over the course of twenty two pages.

BLACK CHURCH

(W/A) Andy Belanger

Andy B's 40 pages of pure black and white mini-comic destruction, in a blood red, hand stamped 7" record jacket with a color cover. 7"x7".

1430. In the bitter dark of the Transylvanian winter, Vlad Dracul and his brother narrowly escape their Turkish captors, fleeing into the woods and almost certain danger. There he is entranced by a mysterious witch- but when a prophecy arises that claims their child will be the Antichrist, Vlad is forced to make a difficult decision for the future of his country, the Order of the Dragon, and his son: DRACULA!

BLACK CHURCH is one part The Omen, one part Game of Thrones, and all parts METAL!
File under: Historic horror fantasy; Psychadelic swords and sorcery

MUDMAN #6

(W/A) Paul Grist

When his mud powers go out of control, Owen Craig has no choice but to turn to the mysterious Mister Gull for help. But just because it's the only choice doesn't make it a good one.

After a short break, Paul Grist, master of the sequential arrangement of framed boxes returns with his brilliant and pure love letter to super-hero books of the past! Mudman reads like early Ditko Spider-Man complete with reluctant teenage angst ridden heroes, weird half naked ocean powered villains, mysterious mentors dressed as pirates and a gorgeous girl next door all wrapped up in a perfectly crafted package of pure fun.
